Cowiche is a Yakima Indian word pronounced, cow - wi - cha', and means: the pathway to high ground.

Welcome to Cowiche Archery!  I strive to build a bow of the highest quality and try to keep the prices at a level the working man can afford.  (Believe me ,when I say, I understand how tight money is these days).

I stand behind every bow I build, for quality of materials and workmanship.  I build my bows one at a time, I don't employ production methods.  Each and every bow I build is discussed with the prospective buyer, and I try to provide the best value in a bow his or her hard earned money can buy. I ask questions and I answer questions.  I try to determine what the buyer really is looking for, and am not afraid to offer all the experience my 50 years of traditional and primitive archery can muster, so the buyer can make an informed decision.

Many times people are fooled into making purchases based on what the marketers want them to know . . . but like the ol' boy says,  " If you're gonna buy a mule, ask the guy that rides it, not the guy trying to sell it."

Can a longbow really get the job done?

60" Deflex/Reflex Longbow - Bamboo Backed, Red Elm Core, Black Cherry Belly

Osage Rawhide Backed Longbow - Collector Quality

This is the longbow on the ELB build page.  it is 68" overall, 66" knock to Knock.  The backing is deer rawhide over a thin layer of Pignut Hickory, a core lamination of Ipe, and a Belly lamination of Osage orange taken from an old fence post.  The bow has two inches of set back after 100 shots!

I've been told by some pretty well known Bowyers that Ipe is too heavy for a bow.  Guess this bow wasn't listening.  Because it is a real shooter!

Moral of the story: just because someone say's it wont work doesn't mean it's true.

Experimentation is the mother of invention.

Say what ever happened to the Mothers of Invention anyway?
